We are delighted to learn of StepUp Travel's initiative. It is a fantastic opportunity for smaller local businesses to link directly to their customers and will therefore be of enormous benefit to the traveller - the interactive nature of the website will ensure information remains up to date, giving a wider selection of ethical travel choices than ever before. Tourism Concern's mission statement is to ensure tourism always benefits local communities, StepUp Travel's links to communities will help achieve this goal.

“I am intrigued with this site. I would love to help out small businesses in my travels instead of constantly relying on huge, foreign developers when traveling. I'm also looking to move abroad in the next year and would love to meet people living, working and traveling the world so that I might learn more about inspiring initiatives, such as this one, that exist. Most of my friends are like-minded travelers as well, so I'd love to introduce them to this concept.” - Chicago, U.S.A.

“I am currently working towards a PhD in tourism with an emphasis on pro-poor tourism. This website would potentially harbor information that could help me better understand the marketplace for this type of travel as well as provide opportunities for me to participate in more pro-poor tourism activities in the future (I have been to Panama, Costa Rica, and Brazil on PPT excursions to assist the local populations).” - Houston, U.S.A.

“I am a travel and tourism research specialist and a doctoral student at Michigan State University, and I am very interested in case studies of sustainable tourism and in better understanding the motivations and behaviors of sustainable tourism markets.” - East Lansing, U.S.A.
